Seeking Outstanding Alumni Award nominations

Every year at its annual convention, the American Association of Community Colleges honors some of community colleges' finest graduates. It gets some nice national attention and it's also a great celebration (the awards are presented at a gala). But before we get there, AACC needs member colleges to send in nominations. NGA focuses on college completion

The focus on college completion continues to gain steam nationally. This week, West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin III, the new chair of the National Governors Association, announced an initiative to increase the number of students in the U.S. who complete college degrees and certificates and to improve the productivity of the country's higher education institutions.

Complete to Compete aims to create a set of common higher education completion and productivity measures that governors and higher education leaders can use to monitor state progress and compare performance to other states and among institutions.

Byrne's bid for governor falls short

In Alabama, the former head of the state's community college system and the lead Republican candidate for governor fell short of the party's nomination this week. As a community college advocate, it was interesting to watch Bradley Byrne's run for the state's top office.

Kicking back into gear
